You Think You Know Who I Am?

John 7:25-29 -- So some of the people of Jerusalem were saying, “Is this man not the one whom they are seeking to kill? 26 And yet look, He is speaking publicly, and they are saying nothing to Him. The rulers do not really know that this is the Christ, do they? 27 However, we know where this man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from.” 28 Then Jesus cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know Me and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know. 29 I do know Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”

Well, it's a late-night quiet time. Quite the opposite of my normal early mornings, but time with the Lord is time with the Lord. There's nothing like it!

We continue to follow Jesus here in John Chapter Seven as he is teaching at the temple in Jerusalem. As He continues teaching, even in the presence of those who wished Him arrested and dead, people begin to question some things. However, there is a pesky little thing we've discussed before that happens here.

False Familiarity.

The crowd starts to see Jesus' boldness, His knowledge of scripture, the fact the religious leaders are doing nothing to stop Him, and you think all the pieces are going to fall into place…. BUT… that simple fact they knew this is the guy from Galilee gave them a false familiarity of knowing who He was, humanly anyway.

The Jews believed the Messiah would appear suddenly and come from nowhere. In their minds it'd be a completely unknown person. However, they all discounted the fact that Jesus did come out of nowhere and did suddenly appear on the scene boldly. As we even saw Nathanael, one of his disciples say, "could anything good come out of Nazareth". However, Nathanael went and saw, and now KNEW Jesus wasn't just some carpenter's son from Galilee, He was so much more.

So, Jesus responds to the crowd by once again connecting Himself to God the Father. By again driving home He was not here for Himself, He was here for God the Father. He makes clear He is from God the Father who sent Him.

Christian, I pray if you are not in the Word regularly and renewing Your mind daily in the Truth, that you would stop, reprioritize, and make room to walk with Him now. Throw away the familiarity our society has given you of Jesus, that the world has given you of Him, and get to KNOW Him directly! See Him, Hear Him, Walk with Him in the Word. Oh Christian, He is alive, and His Word is alive! Don't go through life unplugged from the power source being satisfied only hearing about it for 30 minutes on a Sunday from someone else!

As I've said before Romans 12:2 says be not conformed (pressed into the mold) to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind (in God's Word and in prayer with Him). The world NEVER stops, 24/7, trying to conform you into its mold, so what happens if you are not renewing your mind in God's Word?

Don't take my word for it. Be the Berean, get into the Word and see for yourself. I so pray you will. I hope you have a great Friday night and weekend.

You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
