John 11:29-32 -- And when she heard it, she rose quickly and went to him. 30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha had met him. 31 When the Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary rise quickly and go out, they followed her, supposing that she was going to the tomb to weep there. 32 Now when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died.”
Thank You Lord for family. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
It's been a long day today. We found out some close family tested positive for covid, so many prayers for them. My middle son was in a minor wreck, which thank God everyone was okay, although the person who hit him drove off. He was a bit shaken up but other than that he was okay. Praise God!
Something simple jumped out when we walked through John 11:32. We see Mary gets to Jesus and falls at his feet, but there is something else too. It involves this same woman, Mary, and the story from Luke 10:38-42.
Luke 10:38-42 -- Now while they were on their way, Jesus entered a village [called Bethany], and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister named Mary, who seated herself at the Lord’s feet and was continually listening to His teaching. 40 But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, “Lord, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.” 41 But the Lord replied to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.”
Same Mary. Same Jesus. Two vastly different circumstances. Both times we find Mary at the feet of Jesus. From a point of joy and adoration, leaning in to listen to The Teacher, to the depths of grief and frustration that her brother was dead and The Teacher could have done something about it. Still, we find Mary at the feet of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Christian, do you go to the feet of Jesus in all circumstances? In storms and pain? In joy and blessing? When He has blessed you beyond measure and when He arrives four days after you expected He would?
Jesus tells Martha in Luke 10:42 "but one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which will not be taken away from her.".
Beloved, let that sink in as you think about the good, the bad, and the ugly circumstances of your life right now and where it is you find yourself in relation to the feet of your Lord and Savior.
It strikes me how easy it is to be a Jonah when things aren't going the way we think they should. We run from Him, instead of falling at His feet. If you're running, why? Think about it. Talk with the Lord about it. Don't hesitate. Don't put it off.
You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
