Watch the Witnesses.

John 5:31-32 --- “If I alone testify about Myself, My testimony is not true. 32 There is another who testifies about Me, and I know that the testimony which He gives about Me is true.

Today we move into a new section of Jesus' testimony to the religious authorities. He has thoroughly gone over His equality with God the Father, made clear their unique identities, and laid out their relationship.

Don't lose the context that Jesus is in Jerusalem, around the Temple area, during a feast. The religious authorities are stirred up because Jesus told a man to carry his pallet on the Sabbath. They skipped over the fact He'd healed the man of thirty -eight years of feebleness.

I can only imagine the authorities at this point were boiling with anger, about to pass out from shock, or both. Jesus turns from telling them who He is and His position with God the Father, to now giving witnesses.

If it had just been Jesus' word, they could easily dismiss it as the rantings of a madman. Plus, there were laws in place about witnesses and testimony. Deuteronomy 19:15 laid out that a single witness was not enough, there had to be two or three to confirm a matter.

It jumped out at me that Jesus knew exactly who He was talking to. These authorities had confronted Him with the law. He responded with who He is, where His authority comes from, and that, per the law, He has witnesses to back it up.

In the coming days we'll see Jesus give three witnesses, John the Baptists, His works, and God the Father. Today however there was just one thing that hung heavy in my quiet time...

Christian, do you realize you are a witness for Jesus Christ? When you say you're a Christian, your life goes on the record for the world to review. Your words and actions will either point them to Jesus or back to the world.

Let that really soak in today. Think about it and pray. Also, don't take my word for it, be the Berean and get into the Word. See and hear for yourself!

Don't forget you are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
