James 3:17 -- But the wisdom from above is first pure [morally and spiritually undefiled], then peace-loving [courteous, considerate], gentle, reasonable [and willing to listen], full of compassion and good fruits. It is unwavering, without [self-righteous] hypocrisy [and self-serving guile].
I read today's verse and it made me think how far off we get in our own ways, our own strength, and our own wisdom in life. Then I thought of my beautiful wife, Amanda. I thought of how different we are, yet how amazing our marriage is. How much love there is between us. How we are best friends when she doesn't even like power metal or Lord of the Rings. She likes Beauty and the Beast, but I like Aladdin. We have a chasm between us.
Then it hits me, we are connected by the cross of Jesus Christ. It is His love and His love alone that overrides and overflows, connecting us. Our marriage isn't perfect. We have our ups and downs. We get upset at one another. We have differing opinions on many things. She still doesn't like Lord of the Rings, but because of Jesus and the Word of God being center in our marriage we CHOOSE to be in His love, which binds us together in that love.
Not emotion. Not feeling.
But a choice of love. Love as a verb. Love as action.
