This DAY.

Matthew 6:9-13

9 In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

10 Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

11 Give us this day our daily bread.

12 And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

13 And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

Lord, thank You for day one of this new year. May You be glorified and the Good News of Jesus be lifted high above everything else. I ask for Your wisdom Lord in how to take each step, in each day, so that my life, my words, my actions will honor, glorify, and point to You, to Jesus, to the Word! I humbly lay Jesusccc.com at your feet and say your will be done in 2023. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Although the new year has begun, I am grateful to have this single day and to be able to spend it with the Lord. Spending one day at a time, one step at a time with Him has become much more normal, than it ever was in years past. Life can be so overwhelming when we try to take it all in, all the time, in our own strength and understanding.

Today I was led to the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13. In it Jesus models a prayer for His disciples. There are five verses here and the one right in the middle really jumped out, verse eleven.

"Give us this day our daily bread."

Not because it talks of provision or because it's something focused on us, NO WAY, but because it sets an expectation of a time frame.

"This Day"…

The word DAY in the Greek is sēmeron and means: this day, today, now

"Daily Bread"…

The word DAILY in the Greek is epiousios and means: for subsistence, needful-daily. This word is found only in two places in the Bible, both are the phrases from Matthew and Luke speaking of "daily bread". Making it bread of necessity.

Christian, why did Jesus model for us that we are to pray for the Lord to give us THIS DAY our DAILY bread? Do you believe it is not necessary to walk with Him in prayer and in His Word each day? If so, how is it you receive the bread of necessity Jesus asks the Father for on a daily basis?

You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
