John 5:41-42 -- I do not receive glory from people; 42 but I know you, that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.
Jesus has concluded the giving of five testimonies, His own, John the Baptist, His works, God the Father, and the Scriptures. He now moves to a very direct confrontation of the religious authorities. One that we church goers should pay close attention to.
Jesus makes clear to the religious He is not in need of anything from them. His concern wasn't getting glory from them but getting their hearts right to receive eternal life. A heart that is right with Jesus, will glorify and honor God. It's a natural response when you fully realize who He is.
He then says something in verse forty-two that grabbed hold of me today. Most translations don't even word it this way but checking the Greek it's the way it was written. Jesus says, "but I know you". It may not have meant much to these pharisees at the time, but to us today... He KNOWS YOU. We pretend we can hide in the dark. Play at concealing things from prying eyes. We can do quite well at it when it comes to other people. BUT God… He knows you.
Christian, stop and let that sink in. If there is something you're running from, trying to hide, avoiding God over, He already knows. Read Psalm 139 and you'll realize it's not God who needs to be made aware of things in us, most times it's God who must make us aware. So run to Him, not away! Running away means nothing will ever change. You will grow weary with running, carrying it, stumbling through the dark, and eventually it will lead to a fall. All for something God already knows and is just waiting for you to come to Him about.
Matthew 11:28-30 -- “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”
Beloved, I pray you will have the courage to stop running, talk to the Lord and get into His Word today. Let Him reveal, bring to repentance, and renew you. For those who feel all is well, I pray you would read Psalm 139 and have a heart like David, which asks the Lord to search him and show if there is anything in him that needs to be addressed.
I'm not saying everyone must have something wrong with them at all times, but Christian, be wise and make sure to keep yourself in His presence, prayer, Word, and worship every day. Stay connected to His body (the Church) and those Christian brothers and sisters He's put you alongside as well. That way self-deception doesn't have a chance to creep in.
Well, that's where the journey went today. Lots of things to think about this Friday morning.
Remember, you are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
