1 John 2:6 --- whoever says he abides in him (Jesus) ought to walk in the same way in which he (Jesus) walked..
There are a trillion and one things going on in our world right now and yesterday SCOTUS overturned Roe V. Wade. Before my brain could fully wrap around it, you know what I found on social media? Ugly, hateful, unloving posts from many "professed" Christians. It broke my heart to see many who claim to follow Jesus, spit rotten, unwholesome, belittling, mocking, hatred at the world. Proving to the world that "Christians" are exactly what they say we are, hypocrites. Think about 1 John 2:6 before sharing that next meme on social media. Here it is again:
1 John 2:6 --- whoever says he abides in him (Jesus) ought to walk in the same way in which he (Jesus) walked..
Now ask yourself this, did Jesus belittle people? Did Jesus mock people? Did Jesus speak hatred to those with opposing views? Did Jesus despise those who didn't see or understand the truth of who He was? Did Jesus go to Caiaphas' house after being resurrected and say, "I told you so."? Did Jesus laugh at people who were in anguish and hurting?
NO… He didn't do any of those things. He stood firmly against religious leaders of the day, he spoke boldly to them, but never hate or rottenness. He spent time with the lost, sinful, hurting people of the world. He went to them to speak truth and love and show truth and love. So, if you're going to profess to the world, you are a Christian and follow Jesus, then you had better take 1 John 2:6 serious, along with all these verses as well:
1 John 1:6 --- If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
1 John 1:8 --- If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
1 John 2:4 --- Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him,
1 John 2:9 --- Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness.
1 John 3:5 --- No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him.
1 John 3:7-10 --- 7 Little children, let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous, as he is righteous. 8 Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God's seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God. 10 By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
Are we to stand for His Truth found in the Word of God, YES.. ABSOLUTELY we are, but we better make perfectly certain we are doing it the way Jesus did, because He understood LOVE and TRUTH cannot be separated. We cannot set aside LOVE in order to take TRUTH and beat the lost, hurting world over the head with that TRUTH. It's not how Jesus did it! He spoke the TRUTH in LOVE, while walking in LOVE and showing LOVE. The TRUTH and LOVE were shown in what He said, what He did, how He carried Himself. So, if you're doing it differently, you might want to reassess, talk to God about it, get into His Word and find out how He did it really quick!
Matthew 6:33 --- But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.
There is a clear line between rejoicing and praising God over this and taking it into your own hands to boisterously laugh and deride the world.
How will anyone ever see the heart of Jesus, if all they get from His professed body, is a baseball bat of truth in hate?
