The Living Water and the Woman.

John 4:9-15 --- 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

In today's journey into the Word, we watch and listen as Jesus has a conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well.

Now, we can't forget the historical, cultural, and religious context we walked through yesterday about this whole situation. During this time women were heartbreakingly treated at best as objects and objects have no say, no rights, nothing.

Stop and think about the fact that Jesus, the Son of God, The Word in flesh, broke down man's rotten cage around women and spoke to them openly, in public, like the real human beings He created them to be, not objects. With Nicodemus he talks with him at night, alone. With the Samaritan woman, He speaks with her openly, in broad day light, at a hugely public place. So, if we are to walk and act as Jesus did, like Christians are told in 1 John 2:6, then us men had better do a brake check on our hearts towards women. We also better not have a single scrap of sexism in us towards them either. Our Lord and Savior sure didn't!

Now, it can't be stressed enough just how utterly shocking it is for Jesus to just have this talk with her. Speak to a woman in public? Speak to a Samaritan and ask them for something? BUT… to speak to a Samaritan Woman in public and to ask her for something! Well, that's just beyond insanely wild in this period and culture... but here's Jesus!

I know I have belabored this point but it's absolutely amazing to see Jesus over two thousand years ago breaking down social walls the world to this day still struggles with.

Just like with Nicodemus, Jesus has a conversation with this woman. If I'm watching Jesus so I can act and walk as he does, the one thing you see over and over is He talks to people. Especially when He isn't surrounded by pressing crowds, which usually happened when He did a miracle. We do see Jesus preaching and talking to crowds, to his disciples, and even smaller to His three inner circle guys. However, it's in these individual face-to-face conversations we really see Him go after that one lost sheep.

Today our adventure didn't take us into a deep dive of the Greek words, but instead it was more of a rest on the side of hill that gave a great overview of the area. Just a gentle taking in of some grand things our Savior did and continues to do into this very day.

That sums up my quiet time with the Lord. I am grateful to be able to come to Him and walk together every morning. To just see Him, hear Him, and talk with Him, is one of the greatest blessings there is.

Don't take my word on anything, be the Berean and search the scriptures yourself. See what God has to say! Remember you are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone. Reach out if you need pray or to talk.
