The King Calls Awake!

1 John 1:5-10

As I sat with the Lord today and went back over 1 John 1:5-10. The words "If we say" just keep repeating over and over. There is so much talk and so many good deed checklists and all the while, deep inside, in a hidden place, many Christians are empty, hurting, frustrated and even hopeless. The world gets darker, people are hurting more and more. Light, love, and truth are needed so desperately.

(Esphesians 5:14 - Awake O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.)

The Slumber of Giants

by Phillip Hall

Across the plains, darkness Hordes ride upon the wind Roaming freely, unchecked

All the while, giants slumber Snores of self-deceit resound echoes of power, empty

Darkness rests, oppressively It consumes the little children All the while, giants slumber

The King calls to arms, warriors Mighty giant will you stir Oh sleeping one awake, rise from death

As the King now whispers, deafeningly Why do you continue in slumber Arise in Christ sleeping giant, fight

I had the scene from Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, at the final battle of Helms Deep. Aragorn and King Theoden see the walls breached. The enemy is pouring in. It is decided to ride out together, into battle. Theoden who had been a king asleep on his throne, while the enemy moved into his lands, is now vibrant, fired up and full of fight. Ready to go forth even unto death to stand against the darkness. He draws his sword and shouts as he charges forward.

What if no one had followed him? What if all behind him were sleeping or distracted or too busy?

Will you answer the Lord's call to awake?
