The Choice of the Faceless Soldier
Oh faceless soldier, pushing on to war
Many times following, not knowing what for
The questions of why, start filling your head
Was it fame, was it fortune, that brought you here
Was it misunderstanding, maybe not clear
Or was it for reasons, you dare not say
Your heart is now filling, with doubts and fear
Hesitant you watch, the enemy draw near
Regardless of why, you now stand on the lines
Inward you look, but there’s nothing to find
Desperate for strength, feeling like you’re blind
Now comes the choice, will you be paralyzed
If it’s your power and skill, that lead the way
Then its assured, you will perish this day
Will you continue to stand, struggling on
Laying down your arms, would only delay
The oncoming torrent, of death’s embrace
Now panic sets in, as the horde crashes down
Surrounded by chaos, screaming and cries
Thoughts of what you should have done, blind your eyes
Can you hear, the enemy is laughing now
Lost in emotion, circling for a kill
Feeling like a puppet, controlled by pride’s will
Locked in a battle, inside of yourself
Unseen to you, the enemy passes by
No longer a threat, but more their ally
But if you would listen, your king is calling
For his call brings purpose, light to the dark
His strength and power, to you he imparts
But again comes a choice, what will you do
Will it be selfish misery, you sing
Or answer the call, of the one true King
Awake o sleeper, arise from the dead
Now you answered the call, the sword you did take
Knowing deep down, it was the right choice to make
But once you arrived, other questions came
The jeers of the enemy, lined up with wounds
That emotion and pride, had pushed from the room
Never in sight, but always lurking beneath
A wall of anger, the great protective mask
Was stitched on top, of all the shattered glass
Unaware, you pushed on in your strength and pride
Putting on armor, that didn’t quite fit
Voices inside saying, just give up and quit
But people now see you, what do you do
You learned to watch, became expert at mime
Then playing the part, and the passage of time
Is where self-deceit set in, and left you blind
Locked back in battle, inside of yourself
Tiny rays of light, make you feel tired and shelfed
But the light brings the day, and with that truth
The enemy stops laughing, and turns to see
A man now surrendering, down on his knees
Not into their hands, but those of his king
There is still struggle in you, there is still pain
But pride and emotion, can no longer reign
For there is but one throne, in the heart of man
When Yeshua sits on it, no one else may
The enemy and self, must step away
Everything bows before him, nothing can stand
So now it’s in the light, you’ve heard the voice
From this point forward, you alone hold the choice
Who sits on the throne, what reigns in your life
Now the battle is simple, it’s been made clear
The choice is now yours, is it faith or fear
Child and soldier of Yahweh, faceless no more
Ephesians 4:22-24 – put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
