Love One Another As I Have Loved You

John 15:12 -- This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you.

Yesterday the question came up of what are Jesus' commandments. Well, just a few verses later He gives us one.

...love one another, just as I have loved you.

We can grasp the first part without any further direction. Love one another. Okay sounds good... BUT... Jesus adds a second part to His commandment.

...just as I have loved you.

Jesus, didn't just tell us to love, but how we're supposed to love. If it'd been left up to us to simply love one another, we'd each interpret "love" and who the "one another" to fit however we like. Instead, we now have to ask ourselves some new questions.

How did Jesus love the disciples?

How has Jesus loved us?

How does Jesus love?

We could go on but now we, as Christians and followers of Jesus, are required to know something, in order to carry out the commandment Jesus has given. We need to answer those questions and know how it is He loved them then and us now.

Sure you can read a book about it. Skim some devotionals. Google search the top ten ways Jesus loves.... but there is only one way I know to be absolutely sure. Go to the source. Go to Jesus. Go to the Word. Let Him tell you and show you. Spend time with Him. Pick a Gospel and watch Him. See how He loves.

Oh, Christian, how would this world change if we all genuinely, with all our heart, strived to obey this commandment?

Let your life be marked by the love of Jesus and you loving others that way. Not by your politics. Not by your bank account. Not by the church you attend. Not by your facebook/Instagram/tiktok posts.

Just something to think about today.

Remember you are loved, you are prayed over, you are not alone.
