Looking to Jesus

Hebrews 12:1-2

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, laying aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Lord, thank You for this new day. A new day of life. A new day of having the privilege of walking with You. Thank You for always being here and no matter how much of a mess I am, You never leave me, You never reject me, You never disown me. No matter how tough things get in life, You are my unshakeable foundation. I ask Lord, fill me with Your love so I may overflow it to all those I encounter this day. Give me and all Your children a desire to get into Your Word and get to know You deeper. To really know Your heart and will. In Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen.

Looking where you're going is quite important. You wouldn't drive a car by looking only out your driver's side window, or the rearview mirror… I hope you wouldn't anyway. Driving while focused anywhere other than the road ahead will lead to a wreck. It might work for a minute, but eventually it will lead to a terrible crash.

Why do we as Christians think we can run the race of life focusing on everything but Jesus?

It's so very easy to do. To get distracted. To focus on the challenges or distractions of life. To look at the wind, waves, and storms all around us. We cry out to God, but we don't seem to focus on Him. We don't set out eyes on Jesus. We don't open His Word to see/hear Him.

I pray today you would slow down enough to open your Bible and start to get your eyes back on Jesus. If you don't know where to start, just open John 1:1 and just read and look at Him. Let the world and all its burdens and demands be muted for a brief moment while you focus on God's Word. See Him, hear Him, step close to Him. The more you do, the less this world's fury will shake you. Talk to Him in prayer, listen and get to know Him in His Word today. Turn on one praise/worship song you know the lyrics to and sing it to Him.

Lay aside the weights and distractions today. Don't let unbelief or doubt entangle you. Set your eyes upon Jesus and just run with Him. Let Him be your focus in the middle of it all today.

You are loved, you are prayed over, you are not alone.
