John 1:5 --- The Light shines on in the darkness, and the darkness did not understand it or overpower it or appropriate it or absorb it [and is unreceptive to it].
We moved into the final verse of the opening of John and what an amazing verse it is. This whole opening has been showing Jesus in a way we don't normally think of. We tend to only see Him in a manger, walking on water, on a cross, or coming out of a tomb. So really slowing down to see this eternal God side of Him has been such a powerful and humbling experience for me.
It's not that I didn't love, respect or was awed by Jesus before, but what came to me was how easy it is to love Jesus for what He did for us. Sure, we love Him for that, but who He already was demands a response from us as well. He not only is our Savior, and Lord but he is The Word, He was in the beginning, He was with God, He is God, all things were made through Him, in Him is life, in Him is Light! That alone makes me stand in awe and wonder!
We see in today's verse the Light shines into the darkness, and I used the Amplified version of the Bible for this because it captured the deeper meaning behind what happens next. The Light shines forth and darkness did not, katalambanō, that Greek words means: overtake, perceive, comprehend, take hold of, receive.
Nothing can stand in the way or stop the Light. It can be ignored, it can be denied, it can run from, it can be attacked, it can be hated, it can be lied about, but it cannot be stopped.
Is Jesus unstoppable in your life?
If not, then what's stopping Him in your life?
Just something to think about this Thursday. Be the Berean and get into your Bible with the Lord. Meet Him there and see what He has for you!
