Daniel 9:18 --- O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how your city—the city that bears your name—lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.
Lord, today I come before you in prayer. I come into your throne room in the name of Jesus, and I lift up our world to you Father. It's broken, it's a mess and there is so much hurt, pain, and loneliness, oh how we need Your light and love. I lift up our nation Lord. In the 44 years of my life, we have fallen so far, so fast. We have become a people who are so selfish and so bent on erasing and replacing you with our own self gods of emotions, feelings and distractions, that we're willing to utterly destroy everything we ever stood for and each other in the process. Oh Lord I repent for our nation. For your church. Your church has become just like the world, but I say, NO MORE oh Lord! Let your children fall upon their faces, humble themselves, seek you above all and rise up in Jesus' name to bring a revolution of Your truth, Your light and Your love to a broken, lost, lonely, hurting country…state…city…home. Lord the prayer of Daniel comes vividly to my mind and I take his words now from Daniel 9 and I speak them to you for America.
O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands. But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land.
Lord, you are in the right; but as you see, our faces are covered with shame. O Lord, we and our kings, princes, and ancestors are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him. We have not obeyed the Lord our God, for we have not followed the instructions he gave us through his servants the prophets. All of America has disobeyed your instruction and turned away, refusing to listen to your voice.
Darkness and calamity have come upon our country, yet we have refused to seek mercy from the Lord our God by turning from our sins and recognizing his truth.
O Lord our God, you brought lasting honor to your name by rescuing your people from Egypt in a great display of power. But we have sinned and are full of wickedness. In view of all your faithful mercies, Lord, please turn your furious anger away from our cities, our states, our country. All the neighboring nations mock us and your people because of our sins and the sins of our ancestors.
O our God, hear your servant’s prayer! Listen as I plead. For your own sake, Lord, smile again on your desolate sanctuary.
O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair. See how this once great country lies in ruins. We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.
O Lord, hear. O Lord, forgive. O Lord, listen and act! For your own sake, do not delay, O my God, for your people.
I pray Lord open our eyes to see You and let it start with Your church Lord. Awaken the sleeping giants so they may rise up in this dark hour to bring Your light and love. To show broken, hurting, lost and lonely people that even in the darkest, coldest of times there is love, acceptance, stability, light, direction in Jesus. Create in us a revolution of Your love and truth, so that we may wrap our arms around those who desperately need You.
Let it start with me Lord. I humble myself and seek your face. I turn from my wicked ways and I listen for your voice from heaven oh Lord. Heal this land... not because we deserve it but because of Your mercy.
In Jesus name I pray these things. Amen.
