John 11:7-10 -- Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let us go to Judea again.” 8 The disciples said to him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just now seeking to stone you, and are you going there again?” 9 Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world. 10 But if anyone walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him.”
Thank You Lord for this new day. Thank You God for old friends. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
After intentionally waiting two extra days Jesus tells the disciples they're heading back to Judea. Now keep in mind Judea is where Jerusalem and the temple are located. This was not home of the Jesus fan club for sure. It was the religious authorities' home base!
The disciples quickly speak up in verse eight as it wasn't too long ago, they witnessed Jesus surrounded and about to be stoned to death. They understood the gravity of the situation, but still had not fully grasped just who it was they walked with. We find it throughout the Gospels, even up to when Jesus is crucified, they lose heart, they lose direction, still focused upon the physical here and now. They were hearing the voice of fear and feelings which showed them only the worst possible outcome, death.
I love that Jesus doesn't hesitate to respond to them. He lets His voice be heard above the voices of fear, doubt, anxiety, and feelings. He explains by giving the example of walking during the day you won't stumble, but at night you will. There was a window of time, the day if you will, where Jesus could move about and do miracles as it was not his time to be lifted up. What's very interesting is we will find later in this very chapter, that because of Jesus' actions here, it begins the final path to the cross. God's timing of things is so amazing.
Christian, how many times have you let feelings or fear make the decision on how, when, and where you follow the Lord?
There is so much more we could explore but this is where the Lord led on today's adventure. I pray you will be the Berean and get into the Word yourself to see these things!
You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
