John 2:9-11 --- 9 When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom 10 and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” 11 This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
In today's journey through the Word, we finally see the results of what happens when Jesus is involved. Sneak peek… things change!
What has God shown us so far in His Word with this event.
1. A problem that carried with it consequences. Wedding wine ran out.
2. The person, Mary, who learned of this problem, took it straight to Jesus.
3. Jesus doesn't promise Mary to fix it but instead clarifies their relationship.
4. Mary points the servants to Jesus. To listen to Him and do whatever He says.
5. Jesus commands them to fill up 6 water pots, 120 gallons, over 1000 lbs to carry from a well.
6. The servants not only fill the pots, but fill them to the very brim.
7. Jesus immediately commands the servants to draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.
8. The servants once again obey Jesus and take it directly to the man in charge of tasting.
In these amazing events we see a great example of how things should be done with problems/issues/storms and that is put Jesus right in the middle of it. Take it to Him. Talk to Him. Point everyone else there to Him. Listen to Him. Obey Him. Trust Him, even if you can't see what He's doing or done. Then when you act in accordance with His Word, leave all the consequences in His hands. Last step, watch as He changes things.
If we would simply just put Jesus in the middle of all our stuff and involve Him, talk to Him, make Him the center. That's praying, diving into the Word, getting connected to His body. What would change if we faithfully went to Him, faithfully listened, and obeyed whatever He said?
I know that sometimes we do pray and involve Jesus and our issue or problem doesn't change, or doesn't change how we want it to, or think it should. So, what gives? Doesn't involving Jesus change things? Doesn't going to prayer and the Word change things?
The answer is YES! Yes, it does, but sometimes what changes isn't always easy to spot. Sometimes He changes us in the middle of it. Sometimes He changes someone else in the middle of it. Maybe it's someone you keep pointing to Jesus. Maybe it's someone who simply sees you going to Jesus.
Look at two things in these verses today. First, it says, "though the servants who had drawn the water knew". Second, these verses end with, "And His disciples believed in Him.".
Two groups of people who weren't even the ones with the problem, were changed that day. The servants and the disciples saw it firsthand. The groom and his new wife were the ones with the issue and guess what, they had absolutely no clue what had just happened. It was Mary who knew of and brought the issue to Jesus, but we see servants and disciples being changed.
So just know that all your prayers, your reading of His Word, your praying with Christian brothers or sisters, none of it is ever wasted, none of it is ever unheard or unseen by our Lord!
Never lose heart in doing these things, even when you don't see the change in your life, your storm, your problem, KNOW He is changing something! Sometimes it's something inside of you. Giving you strength to walk through the storm. Sometimes it's something inside someone else involved or even someone on the outside looking in at the whole thing. No matter what though, He always changes something when we faithfully bring Him into it, take our hands off, and trust Him with it.
Have a blessed Tuesday. Know you are loved, you are prayed over, and you are not alone this day.
