Jesus Christ the righteous

1 John 2:1 --- My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

Well, my plan today was to move to verse 2, but as I began to move from prayer into reading the word, I felt compelled to look at verse 1 one more time. As I did the final words jumped off the page at me, "Jesus Christ the righteous."!

Stop and take that in for a second. This is who our advocate is... Jesus Christ the righteous.

What is righteous exactly? Sure, most of us have a concept of what it is, an idea, a notion. Some may fully understand it, but I felt compelled to walk with Him into it this morning.

Google/Dictionary says: (of a person or conduct) morally right or justifiable; virtuous. Okay this goes with that vague, general head knowledge of what it means...however God's word goes deeper.

In verse 1 "the righteous" in Greek is the word dikaios which is upright, righteous, virtuous, keeping the commands of God; preeminently, of him whose way of thinking, feeling, and acting is wholly conformed to the will of God, and who therefore needs no rectification in heart or life; in this sense Christ alone can be called dikaios. ...or THE righteous.

It's mind boggling to think He came for me. Not only did He come and live as a man, die on a cross, be resurrected, ascend into Heaven, but He is my advocate right this very second! He stands alongside me, the righteous Christ Jesus.

I just had this image of being handed a business card, then holding it up. Reading who it was for, Jesus Christ. Then below that wasn't President, CEO, Manager, Designer, Coach... no it was "The Righteous", and He even had his contact info on there so he could be reached any time, night or day.

Today He has left me in awestruck wonder over these simple few words in English... a single word in Greek... yet an infinite depth of love, joy and wonder only to be found in Him, through Him and with Him. Wow.

If you need prayer for anything at all, good, bad, or ugly, please let me know!
