John 14:21-24 - He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.” 22 Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him. 24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
Here Jesus sits just a few hours away from being betrayed. He's pouring out some of the final words He'll have to His disciples. One thing He repeats to them is this:
John 14:15 “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.
John 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our dwelling with him.
John 14:24 He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.
If we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments and His word.
Commandment in the Greek is entolē and means: an authoritative prescription: commandment, precept.
Word in the Greek is logos and means: something said (including the thought). Logos is used to refer to the written Word of God.
Now stop and think about the mighty struggle Christians have today with reading and studying their Bibles every day. For me personally this past month has been a battle to find time and when I do, to fully focus on being with Him.
It can be a very real challenge, but when we hear Jesus say point blank, "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments." and "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word.", how can we justify not being in His Word regularly? If we're being honest, we know we can't justify it.
Lord, let Your Word convict our hearts over not embracing Your commandments and Your Word. You made it crystal clear that to love You is to love and keep Your Word. To love You is to be in Your Word. To keep Your commandments, we must read Your Word to know what they are. Whatever stands in our way, whether it be sickness, work, this world, laziness, people, whatever it may be, draw our eyes to You oh Lord. Let us walk in Your Word daily and through it refresh our love for You. Give us a hunger to love You more through keeping Your commandments and Word. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
