How Do You Serve Him?

John 13:15-17 For I gave you an example that you also should do as I did to you. 16 Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.

Christian, is Jesus your master?

Many call Him savior, healer, miracle worker, and friend but is He your master?

The word master in the Greek is kyrios and means: he to whom a person or thing belongs, about which he has power of deciding; master, lord, supreme in authority, controller.

Many will say they "belong" to Jesus, but what about that last part, "about which He has power of deciding"? Everyone wants to belong, but few want to give up control.

I've seen this week on social media many Christians squabbling over their opinions of things. Most times they back up their arguing with articles written by men/women, with cherry picked verses sprinkled about from the article. So much time spent trying to prove their own point and justify their opinions. I couldn't help by ask myself, where is Jesus in all of this?

The answer came from Luke and it wasn't so much about where Jesus was in it, but what the "servants" are focused on.

Luke 12:35-48 -- Be Ready for His Coming -- “Gird up your loins, and keep your lamps lit. 36 And be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find awake when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them. 38 Whether he comes in the second watch, or even in the third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 40 You too, be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

41 Now Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?” 42 And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and prudent steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk, 46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers. 47 And that slave who knew his master’s will and did not get ready or act in accord with his will, will receive many beatings, 48 but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a beating, will receive but a few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required, and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

Beloved, I ask you again, is Jesus your Master? If you say yes, then what are you, as His servant, doing with your time right now?

There are far too many "servants" wasting their time eating, drinking, and beating on the other servants, instead of keeping their lamps lit, making sure to have enough oil, and staying awake, alert, sober, vigilant, in locking their eyes on Jesus.

I encourage you to deeply think and pray about this today. Is the main focus on yourself, your life, your points, your opinions, your judgements, or is it on Jesus, the Master, Teacher, Lord, Savior, Friend, and hearing/doing what He tells you in His Word?

Don't take my word on anything. I'm just a guy, writing a blog from my quiet time spent with the Lord in prayer and in His Word. Please go to your own bible and let Him speak to you in His Word directly.
