Grave Clothes?

John 11:44 - The man who had died came out, his hands and feet bound with linen strips, and his face wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”

Lord, thank You for this new day. I thank You for continued healing Lord each day. May You be glorified and honored this day in all I say and do. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

As we begin journeying through God's Word today, I was drawn back to John 11:43. There was just more the Lord had in store here in Lazarus being raised from the dead.

There were two things that really jumped out. Both are about the grave clothes Lazarus was wrapped in.

First, is the fact that once raised Lazarus is still wrapped up in grave clothes. He somehow shuffles, hops, wriggles his way out of the tomb. It specifically talks of his hands, feet and face being bound or wrapped. It doesn't say in the Word, but I'd think Lazarus was struggling to orient himself to what was happening or even breath really. Jesus' reaction to this is to command those standing nearby to unbind him and let him go. The miracle of raising him from the dead didn't include the grave clothes being gone.

Christian, the Lord does mighty things that we can't, but there are a great many things we can and are commanded to do for others around us. It's not okay for us to simply stand around and watch someone struggle to breathe and move. We are the body of Christ Jesus and He commands and expects us to be moving to help others. Not just sit back and hope the preacher or someone else does it.

The second thing about grave clothes here jumps ahead to Jesus. When He was resurrected, He left His grave clothes behind.

John 20:6-7 - Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen cloths lying there, 7 and the face cloth, which had been on Jesus' head, not lying with the linen cloths but folded up in a place by itself.

This is what was found once the stone was rolled away from Jesus' tomb. What got me was Lazarus would be needing his grave clothes again one day, as he was brought back to physical life here on Earth. When Jesus was resurrected it was in full victory over death and He would never again need those grave clothes! He was finished with them forever! Amazing!

Just some interesting things to think about starting off the week. God is so awesome, and I pray you don't take my word on anything. Instead get into your bible and see for yourself!

You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
