John 1:14 --- And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Today our journey kept us in verse fourteen. The end of this verse jumped off the page this morning.
"full of grace and truth"
Full in the Greek is plērēs and means: full, filled up, covered in every part, thoroughly permeated with; complete; lacking nothing, perfect.
So, what is it that Jesus was filled up, covered in every part, thoroughly permeated with, perfect, lacking none of, when He came dwell among us here?
Grace in the Greek is charis which means: good-will, loving-kindness, favor; kindness which bestows upon one what he has not deserved.
Thayer's Greek Lexicon adds: "It is styled 'the grace of Christ,' in that through pity for sinful men Christ left his state of blessedness with God in heaven, and voluntarily underwent the hardships and miseries of human life, and by his sufferings and death procured salvation for mankind"
Truth in the Greek is alētheia and means: truth, true.
Thayer's again adds this: "In reference to religion, the word denotes what is true in things appertaining to God and the duties of man; The truth, as taught in the Christian religion, respecting God and the execution of his purposes through Christ, and respecting the duties of man, opposed alike to the superstitions of the Gentiles and the inventions of the Jews, and to the corrupt opinions and precepts of false teachers even among Christians"
Jesus was FULL of Grace AND Truth together. Both of them and he was thoroughly permeated with them, covered in every part, complete, filled up, perfectly lacking none!
Really think about that for a moment. Grace and Truth together.
Do you cling to His truth as much as you cling to His grace?
Do you see grace and truth as things to be handled separately?
Are you using Grace alone to cover up ongoing sin or sinful patterns in your life?
After thinking about these questions on Grace, read these verses below from God's Truth, His Word. It's absolutely worth reading and deeply thinking through, and talking to the Lord about how all of this applies in your own life.
1 John 3:4-10 --- 4 Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. 5 And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. 6 Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.
7 Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. 8 But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil.
9 Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. 10 So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God.
I pray you will be the Berean and get into your bible and read these things for yourself. Don’t take my word on any of it. I am merely sharing my journey with the Lord, see what He has for you, yourself!
If you need prayer, please reach out. I'm here to pray, talk, or just listen if you need it. You are not alone.
