James 4:8 --- Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
I'm still in James chapter 4 today and this one jumped out to me. I thought of the story of the prodigal son and how the father never left where he was. The prodigal went his own way, into the places he chose, to the things he wanted. When he finally goes home, his father sees him and runs out to grab hold of his boy. He saw his boy coming from far off. I always had the sense he was watching for him to return. Oh the joy of the father when he saw his boy.
If you're a Christian, a follower of Christ Jesus, then it's your choice which direction you're going in life. James ch 4 makes it clear you can't be friends with the world and God. They're going opposite directions. I know it's not always an easy journey and choice but the more you choose to draw near to him in prayer, in worship, in your words, in your actions, in your thoughts, the more he becomes a part of those things. Just another one of those things to think on.
