John 12:26 - If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone serves Me, the Father will honor him.
Lord Thank You for this new day. You are awesome and mighty. May You be glorified and honored in every step through this day. Thank You for leading and guiding me and my family. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Jesus has arrived in Jerusalem for the final time. He knows every step he takes leads Him directly towards the cross. Now, the disciples and those following Him didn't fully understand this would be his final steps this side of the cross. However, two thousand plus years later, with completed Bible in hand, we do know.
When Jesus says "If anyone serves Me, he must follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also…" there is a depth to these words. Not just in the Greek meaning as we'll see, but in knowing He speaks them as He goes towards an unjust, evil, trial and execution. He will be betrayed, arrested, lied about, unjustly condemned, beaten, scourged, mocked, beaten more, then finally tortured, and murdered upon a cross.
Christian, do you fully realize what it is to believe in Jesus Christ, deny yourself, pick up your cross, and follow Him?
When Jesus says, "he must follow" in the Greek it is one word, akoloutheō, which means to be in the same way with, to accompany, follow. Furthermore, it is a Present Active Imperative Verb. Meaning it is a command that is to be done presently and ongoing.
Beloved, Jesus has said if you serve Him, you must follow and keep on following Him, wherever He is. That's seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day, not just Sunday mornings. Be real with yourself, do you follow Jesus the way He's commanded you to? Does your following have limits, time constraints, or only occur when at church or church related events?
Here is one final scripture to think about from today's journey.
Matthew 16:24 - Discipleship Is Costly - 24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to follow Me [as My disciple], he must deny himself [set aside selfish interests], and take up his cross [expressing a willingness to endure whatever may come] and follow Me [believing in Me, conforming to My example in living and, if need be, suffering or perhaps dying because of faith in Me].
Just some things to think about and talk to the Lord about today.
You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
