John 11:21-22 -- Martha then said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. 22 Even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You.”
Thank You Lord for the encouragement You send through others. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
Well, the journey continues today, and it hits me this is day 364 of the journey that started in December 2021. Wow. God is amazing!
Yesterday in John 11:20 it jumped out how even though Martha knew Jesus was coming to her home, she chose to leave and go to Him. She knew where He was, she knew she needed to get to Him. Jesus was the destination, not her home.
Today what jumped out are the two things she says to Jesus when she gets to Him.
First, she says "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.".
She addressed Him as Lord. In the Greek it's kyrios meaning supreme authority, controller, Master. Many people address Him as rabbi or teacher, but Martha KNOWS exactly who Jesus is. He is Lord!
She also KNOWS exactly what her Lord could've done if He'd been present. She says, "my brother would not have died.". We don't know her tone here, but you can only imagine her pain after watching Lazarus die, be buried, then mourning him for four days. She doesn't rage or blame Jesus; she makes a statement of what she knows could've been."
Second, she says something amazing that shows her complete faith in WHO Jesus is, "Even now I know whatever You ask of God, God will give You.".
Jesus has said over and over He was here to do the Father's will, at the Father's direction, in the Father's timing. Martha KNEW He was the Son of God and believed He and the Father were one. Because of this she KNEW whatever Jesus asked, would be in line with the Father, and would be done. In the face of all her pain and mourning she shows her incredibly deep faith!
Two words ring out loudly in the face of death, despair, dissapointment….
EVEN NOW
Christian, do you hear those two words? EVEN NOW. Even now when storms rage in your life. Even now when the worst has come. Even now when the pain has set in. Even now when you're far past human understanding. Even now four days after death.
Charles Spurgeon had this to say: “Some prayers would be all the better if they were shorter — all the better if they did not so much declare our own will as declare our confidence in the good will of Christ. I like the omissions of Martha’s and Mary’s prayer.”
Beloved, when your life or someone close's life has gone beyond human help and hope, do you believe Jesus for yourself or for them, even now?
Something to think about today. I pray you will not take my word on things and be the Berean. Let anything you hear about the Lord, from any source, drive you to the Word of God, so you may let Him show you directly!
You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
