Ephesians 5:25 — Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,
Today, Amanda and I have been married 23 amazing years. I’ve now officially been married more years (23) than I wasn’t (22). There have been lots of ups and lots of downs but we’ve journeyed through them all together.
The first 10 years I wasn’t walking with the Lord. Sure we went to church but for me it was a check in the box of my religious to do list. Amanda carried the weight of our marriage’s and children’s spiritual responsibility. If it wasn’t for her Only God knows how much of a train wreck it would’ve been. Because of her unwillingness to compromise her walk with the Lord or give up taking our boys to church, the Lord was able to snap me awake. Her uncompromising attitude when it came to Jesus, even in the face of many angry arguments from me, changed the course of my eternal destination.
This meek, unassuming, shy and so quiet you can barely hear her speak woman, brought me to the place where Holy Spirit grabbed hold of me and brought me to my knees before Jesus. Talk about David and Goliath. I was a hurting , broken, loud, selfish, argumentative, angry man and God used this young women to flat knock me out with one single stone… her love for Jesus was greater than her love for me. That love was louder and more powerful than all my hurt and mess. It rose above the static and chaotic noise to reach me.
Amanda, I thank God every single day for you, for many many things but above all I thank Him that because of you I was pointed to the Way, the Truth, the Life…to Jesus. My name is written in the book of life because it!
God commands me as a husband in Ephesians 5:25 to love you as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her. I can truthfully say it is not just a responsibility or command I follow, it is an honor and one of the greatest blessings of my existence on this Earth to love you. To seek the Lord every single day and be filled with His unselfish, uncompromising, agape love so that I can allow Him to fully love you through me the way you deserve is the greatest joy of my life.
Thank You God for allowing me the honor and blessing of 23 years with This woman. What a journey and adventure it has been! In Jesus name I pray, Amen!
