By Night.

John 3:1-2 --- Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”

Our journey through the Word has brought us to chapter three of John. God is so amazing and there has already been so much beauty and wonder on this adventure to see, hear, and know Jesus deeper!

In today's verses we're introduced to Nicodemus. We're informed he was not only a Pharisee, but also a ruler of the Jews. This would make him a member of the ruling Sanhedrin. Even without being told any of this when you look at what Nicodemus means in Greek, it means: conqueror of people, or victorious among people. So even without details his name alone makes him seem quite important or possibly scary. LOL.

We see Nicodemus come to Jesus at night. Now we don't know exactly why he came at nighttime. It could've been because he didn't want others to see him, or it could've been because he wanted to talk with Jesus alone quietly. The exact reason isn't clear however his actions are quite clear.

Nicodemus didn't come to Jesus while He was doing signs and miracles. He didn't press in around Him with the crowd. He didn't use his authority and status to call for Jesus to come before him. He instead waits until it's dark, its quiet, things have settled down, and he goes to Jesus. He finds Him and he doesn't ask for a sign or a miracle, instead he immediately starts to talk with Jesus about who He is. He wants to talk to Jesus about Jesus!!!

Just yesterday we closed out chapter two of John by seeing MANY believed in Jesus because of the signs and miracles He'd done, and it says that Jesus did not entrust Himself to them because He knew what was in their hearts, what their intentions were. They believed in the signs and miracles, not in Him. They wanted to see more wonders; Nicodemus wanted to know more about Jesus!

Beloved, whether it's the middle of the day, or middle of the night, whether you run, walk, or crawl, come to Jesus! It may be because of miracles you saw or heard about, it may be because of curiosity or necessity, but come to Jesus for Jesus, the one who all things in existence were made through, who in Him is life and light!

Be the Berean and get into your Bible to see and hear these things yourself!
