John 6:25-27 -- When they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” 26 Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you are seeking me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. 27 Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For on him God the Father has set his seal.”
We saw yesterday a large group of people searching for Jesus for the wrong reasons. Today what jumped out to me is they find Him. Now, I know this is a simple thing. However, it utterly amazed me that those seeking Him with the wrong heart, wrong intentions, and wrong ideas about Him can still find Him. Again, I know this may sound simple, it's just where I was caught today in my quiet time with Him.
He's there for them to find and not only does He listen to them, but He also responds. Now, Jesus always speaks the truth and doesn't hold back. So, we hear the crowd ask Him how He got there, but He answers by confronting them with the reasons why they came. He directly tells them what is in their hearts and why they so desperately seek Him.
I am honestly just really moved by how patient, how persevering, and how loving God is with us. These are the same people that have followed from miracle to miracle, to finally getting fed some food of their own, then trying to force Him to be their king. I'm so grateful for God's patience, mercy, and grace, because if it had been me, I would've told them to go jump in the Sea and Galilee. Luckily for all of us, Jesus was perfect in His love and patience!
Christian, when you set out to find the Lord, connect with Him, see Him, and hear Him, know that He is there. Make sure you open your eyes, ears, and heart to receive what it is HE has to say and don't get tangled up in others or your own intentions and interpretations. We'll see tomorrow how this crowd couldn't see or hear past their own desires and intentions.
As I prayed over what to draw, this silly image from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi came to mind. It's a trap we can easily fall into when we approach God with our own intentions and preset ideas of how He should be or how He should handle something. We tend to disregard anything we see in God's Word or from Holy Spirit that doesn't line up with that preset idea we had in the beginning. It's a trap!
Beloved, again, make sure to ask Him to open your eyes, ears, and heart to receive whatever it is HE has for you in His Word when you are seeking Him on things. His ways and timing will always be exactly what we need, even if it doesn't look or feel like we thought it should.
That's about all for today. Just something to think about. Also, don't take my word on it, be the Berean, and jump into the Word yourself! See what God has for you there.
You are loved. You are prayed over. You are not alone.
